Annual Report 2006-2007
The past year at Girls Incorporated of
Alameda County was a memorable one. In every program and at every
milestone, Girls Inc. kept its mission of inspiring all girls to
be strong, smart and bold in mind.
Who we serve:
During the 2006-2007 fiscal year, Girls Inc.
provided services to over 7,000 youth and families. The age range
includes girls 5 - 18 years old.
Nearly 30% of girls served are from families
earning less than $35,000 annually.

Revenue & Expenses:
For the fiscal year 2006-2007, the revenue and
expenses for Girls Incorporated of Alameda County was $5,400,000.

Agency Accomplishments
- In 2008, Girls Inc. of Alameda County is celebrating
50 years of inspiring Alameda County Girls to be strong, smart and
bold.
- Executive Director Linda Boessenecker was welcomed to Girls Inc.
of Alameda County in October 2007. Boessenecker brought with her
22-years of professional experience in the girls’ movement
and a passion for advocating the benefits an all-girl environment
provide.
- Due to the percent of women earning degrees in computer science
decreasing by 12% since 1985, Girls Inc. of Alameda County partnered
with SRI International to develop BuildIT, a program for middle-school
girls with a designed-based curriculum. Girls Inc. of Alameda County
piloted this program, and will be integral in bringing it to four
Girls Inc. affiliates across the country in 2008.
- Over 80% of participants in our Eureka! Teen Achievement Program
enroll in college each year.
- In October 2005, Girls Inc. launched the Girls Advocacy Project,
a three-year program in which high school girls research, design,
and implement a permanent and far-reaching public health project.
The San Francisco Chronicle recently featured the Girls Advocacy
Project’s preliminary findings in two articles on teen health.
- Girls Inc. established a new facility at Concordia Park in East
Oakland in 2006. The site provides technology, academic, and health
and fitness programming for over 100 elementary and middle school
girls.
- Girls Inc. of Alameda County received a four-star rating from
Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities,
in August 2007.
- Pat Loomes, former Girls Inc. of Alameda County Executive Director,
was recognized as the 2007 Woman of the Year by Sen. Ellen Corbett.
- Girls Inc. of Alameda County secured a three year partnership
with AmeriCorps in 2007.
- Girls Inc. expanded early literacy programs to reach more girls,
at a younger age. Our Pathways Counseling Center offers Family Reading
nights to support non-English speaking preschoolers and their parents
in English reading development. Also, the GIRLStart Literacy Program,
previously serving first- and second-grade girls, expanded to include
kindergarten literacy classes at three Oakland schools in 2006 and
began to serve third-grade girls in 2007.
