A big thank you to Eileen Fisher Inc. from everyone at Girls Inc. for the company’s continued support. A special fundraiser, The Eileen Fisher 2009 Give Back event, with 10% of proceeds going to Girls Inc of Alameda County, raised almost $1000 for the agency. Snacks and champagne was served to customers on Friday, November 20, 2009, from 4 -8 pm, for the second year in a row, in support of Girls Inc.

Patricia Wright, manager of the Eileen Fisher outlet at Marina Square in San Leandro, commented “Eileen Fisher is very passionate about Girls Inc. and what the organization stands for, particularly supporting girls self esteem.”

I was struck by the number of women who attended the event to specifically support Girls Inc. Marsha Clendenen, an English teacher at Skyline High School, shared her reasons for attending. “I like Girls Inc., because of their effort to help young women and I like Eileen Fisher’s clothes, her designs feel very freeing, it’s a nice combination, both put effort into helping women”.

Also attending the event was Linda Handy, a trustee for community colleges, that started a Girls Inc. teen pregnancy prevention program in 1984, when the agency was housed in a trailer in a local park. “I have often thought about those girls over the years”, she reminisced about her experiences at Girls Inc. over 25 years ago,”That was really the beginning of support programs for girls”. “I still serve the underserved and I feel good at the end of the day.”

Recently, Eileen Fisher, Inc. donated over $100,000 to various charities specifically focusing on improving the life of women in the areas of wellness, financial independence, self-esteem and prevention of violence.
