Oakland, California (April 12, 2011) – Girls Inc. of Alameda County created a local movement last Friday at their 12th Annual Strong, Smart & Bold Luncheon. 350 guests from around the Bay Area braved the spring heat to honor U.S. Treasurer, Rosie Rios, former Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, Dr. Laura D’Andrea Tyson, and Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco Board of Directors member, Nicole Taylor.  Read more »

The Women of Taste event has always been a great place to be introduced to up-and-coming family wineries like Donkey and Goat, Dashe Cellars and JC Cellars. At the 2009 Women of Taste event, we met Neil and Glenda Cohn of Hannah Nicole Vineyards. Girls Inc. has been invited to ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ stock market next Tuesday, August 10th in celebration of the ING-Girls Inc. Investment Challenge Symposium, which will be held in New York next week. Girls Inc. of Alameda County will ring the opening bell along with representatives from ING and the three original teams of the Investment Challenge from affiliates in NYC, L.A., and Denver.  Read more »

One hundred percent of graduates of our five-year Eureka! Teen Achievement Program enrolled in college last fall. Many were the first of their family to go on to higher education. There are many expenses associated with going to college, which can be burdensome for low-income students. In celebration of the success of our graduating seniors, Girls Inc. has partnered with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., of Silicon Valley to shower our graduates with much-needed supplies and many good wishes as they begin their college journey.  Read more »
