Take A Chance!
Believing in a vision and supporting it by any means necessary is what is meant by taking a chance. Barclay Simpson, long-term supporter of Girls Inc. of Alameda County, is fond of saying “Take a Chance.” His support has made it possible for Girls Inc. to take a chance and expand our programs to girls in Kindergarten through third grade. The GIRLStart early literacy program has allowed our girls to take chances of their own. In its tenth year, GIRLStart is now a signature program of Girls Inc. of Alameda County and has been expanded to several Girls Inc. affiliates nationwide. The “Take a Chance” award recognizes the legacy of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson while honoring others who are taking chances, supporting Girls Inc. and working to elevate the status of girls and women in our community.
Girls Inc. is proud to honor philanthropist Lois De Domenico as the very first Take a Chance recipient, in recognition of her tireless efforts to sustain the work of Girls Inc. through her leadership on the Board of Directors and generous financial support of the agency. Ms. De Domenico received the award at this year’s Strong, Smart and Bold luncheon at which three extraordinary women were recognized annually for significant accomplishments in a variety of fields.
