Pathways Counseling Center, a program component of Girls Incorporated
of Alameda County, offers a training program for graduate students in
psychology at several levels: practicum, pre-doctoral internship, and
post-doctorial internship. Psychodynamic theory is emphasized in the training
seminars, as well as clinical supervision.
Practicum Program
Practicum students provide individual therapy to male and female students
at a local middle school or high school. The practicum positions compromise
10-15 hours per week. The trainee works 6-10 hours per week in the school
setting. The remainder of the time is spent in individual supervision,
group supervision, and a weekly two-hour clinical training seminar.
Qualifications:
- Second-year graduate student and/or one year
experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Knowledge of and interest in psychodynamic theory,
child and adolescent development, and family and group dynamics.
- Use of a car is preferred.
Internship Program
Pre-doctoral and post-doctoral psychology interns
at Pathways Counseling Center provide psychotherapy at our outpatient
mental health clinic. Pathways Counseling Center treats a wide variety
of clients (male and female; child, adolescent, and adult; couples, individuals,
and families). Our population is ethnically diverse and present with a
wide range of psychological difficulties. The internship position may
be either half-time or full-time. Psychodynamic theory is used to understand
the psychology of our patients and to inform our treatment interventions.
Pathways Counseling Center is a California Psychology
Internship Council (CAPIC) member.
Qualifications:
- Pre- or post-doctoral internship status, and
at least two years experience in a clinical setting.
- Knowledge of and interest in psychodynamic theory,
child and adolescent development, and family and group dynamics.
- Use of a car is preferred. However, Pathways
Counseling Center is accessible by BART or bus.
