Graduate Psychology Training Program

Pathways Counseling Center, a program component of Girls Incorporated of Alameda County, offers a training program for graduate students in psychology at several levels: practicum, pre-doctoral internship, and post-doctorial internship. Psychodynamic theory is emphasized in the training seminars, as well as clinical supervision.

Practicum Program
Practicum students provide individual therapy to male and female students at a local middle school or high school. The practicum positions compromise 10-15 hours per week. The trainee works 6-10 hours per week in the school setting. The remainder of the time is spent in individual supervision, group supervision, and a weekly two-hour clinical training seminar.

Qualifications:

  1. Second-year graduate student and/or one year experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  2. Knowledge of and interest in psychodynamic theory, child and adolescent development, and family and group dynamics.
  3. Use of a car is preferred.

Internship Program
Pre-doctoral and post-doctoral psychology interns at Pathways Counseling Center provide psychotherapy at our outpatient mental health clinic. Pathways Counseling Center treats a wide variety of clients (male and female; child, adolescent, and adult; couples, individuals, and families). Our population is ethnically diverse and present with a wide range of psychological difficulties. The internship position may be either half-time or full-time. Psychodynamic theory is used to understand the psychology of our patients and to inform our treatment interventions.

Pathways Counseling Center is a California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC) member.

Qualifications:

  1. Pre- or post-doctoral internship status, and at least two years experience in a clinical setting.
  2. Knowledge of and interest in psychodynamic theory, child and adolescent development, and family and group dynamics.
  3. Use of a car is preferred. However, Pathways Counseling Center is accessible by BART or bus.
