S.M.A.R.T. (Science, Math and Relevant Technology)
Operation SMART provides hands-on after-school science and math
programming to girls in the 4th and 5th grades. Students are encouraged
to take risks, experiment, and work in teams to discover how math
and science relate to their everyday lives. SMART is currently being
offered after school at Girls Inc.'s San Leandro facility two days

Thinking
S.M.A.R.T - Eco Girls
Thinking S.M.A.R.T., a Girls Inc. National Program for middle school
age girls, is designed to foster girls' interest in pursuing education
and careers in science, technology, math, and engineering through
hands-on experiences. Eco Girls, an ecology and environmental engineering
program, invites girls to explore their local environment, learn
about and identify local environmental challenges, and envision
and implement solutions. Eco Girls is offered year round starting
with a four-week summer camp offering indoor and outdoor opportunities
for girls to explore the diverse environments of the San Francisco
Bay Area. During the school year, Eco Girls participants meet one
Saturday of every month to continue their exploration of the environment,
through field trips, science experiments, Internet research, and
career panels. Eco Girls is open to all 6th- 7th grade girls in

Eureka!
Program
Eureka! is an intensive four-year program
that builds girls' confidence and skills by providing hands-on achievement
opportunities in math, science, technology, careers, and sports.
Eureka! registration is open to girls in the seventh grade in Oakland
and San Leandro. Applications are available at the end of March
each year at specific middle schools in Oakland and San Leandro.

Young women in the 8th and 9th grades
spend their first two summers in Eureka! on a college campus exploring
academic subjects, playing sports, learning to take positive risks,
and building relationships with peers and adults.
During the second two years of the program,
Eureka! girls become interns working side-by-side with women mentors
in a variety of career fields. School-year services include math
tutoring, academic counseling, SAT preparation, college overnights,
cultural event field trips, outdoor adventures and more.

Eureka!
Internship Program
Eureka! Interns are young women, ages 14-17 years old, from Oakland
and San Leandro who have completed the first two years of the Eureka!
Program.
For four weeks each summer interns work in the fields of health
care, technology, science, media, law, biotechnology, marketing,
finance, accounting, business, architecture and other related fields.
The internships are designed to provide teen women with hands-on
experience in science, math and technology and to expose them to
positive role models in those fields.
