We celebrated National Poetry month by spotlighting our incredible senior students—Astrid, Jamya, Jocelyn, Lynelle, Lynette, Mareliz and Padme—who are now published poets in Simpsonistas: Tales from the New Literary Project, Vol. 6!
Astrid: “Untitled,” pg. 143
Jamya: “Love,” pg. 173
Jocelyn: “My Mom.” pgs. 171-172
Lynelle: “Coach’s Beach,” 157-158
Lynette: “Untitled,” 151-153
Mareliz: “Fun Little Game,” pgs. 167-168
Padme: “Mama,” pgs. 169-170
The Simpsonistas volumes are published annually and distributed nationally by the New Literary Project, and they feature teenagers published for the first time alongside distinguished award-winning authors. The New Literary Project is committed to uplifting voices through free creative writing workshops for high-school-age youth. These workshops are led by Simpson Fellows—graduate students from UC Berkeley’s Department of English—and supported by longtime Girls Inc. of Alameda County investor, Sharon Simpson.
Congratulations to our students on being published, and for sharing their voices!
